Five Ways to Prevent Amnesia
How to Prevent Amnesia?
There are many causes of amnesia, and aging amnesia is a natural phenomenon. It is also normal to remember the short-lived forgetfulness of meeting the name of the person recently.
The normal memory loss caused by non-aging is called “dementia”, and the most common type is “Alzheimer”.
Another very common type of amnesia is “multi-infarct dementia” caused by continuous stroke gradually affecting brain tissue.
In addition, alcoholism, infection, or repeated brain damage may also cause memory loss.
About Memory in the Brain
Memory can be divided into two categories: short-term and long-term memory.
Short-term memory includes remembering the name of the person recently met or where the car key was placed.
The messages stored in long-term memory include events that occurred a few years ago, such as the name of the third grade teacher, the dress of the ball, and the work of the university during the winter vacation.
As we grow older, our brain cells will gradually die, which may affect the way we store and recall memories, resulting in the gradual decline of short-term memory function, it is difficult to remember the details of recent events, and the ability to learn will also be weakened.
Loss of memory caused by aging usually does not affect normal function, nor does it necessarily get worse over time. It is not the same as dementia.
We recommend five methods to prevent dementia here:
1. Train your mind
Studies have pointed out that the ancient proverb “use it or lose it” describes the training of mental abilities and the rest of the body, which is very appropriate.
You can help maintain the agility and function of the brain through crosswords, mind games, challenge reading, or educational courses.
2. Train your body
There seems to be a correlation between physical exercise and improving mental function, perhaps because it can improve the circulation of the body.
3. Eat a diet rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids
Vegetables and fruits are the best sources of antioxidants, and tea and dark chocolate are also among them.
Cold water fish, fresh flaxseed meal and walnuts are also not to be missed when taking omega-3 fatty acids.
4. Avoid alcohol
The medical literature has proven that alcohol can destroy brain cells.
5. Reduce stress
Reduce stress in daily life, or start learning and practicing regular relaxation techniques, such as meditation or yoga.
